A WOMAN from South Rauceby is to undertake three marathon power walks to raise money for breast cancer charities.

Sarah Dean hopes to complete the Three Land Challenge later this year in aid of Walk the Walk.

The challenge involves three 26.2-mile moonwalks, the first of which is in London on May 11, followed by one in Edinburgh on June 8 and a final event in Iceland a week later.

The walks all take place at night.

Sarah, 50, was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2009 and began her first round of treatment a month later.

She said: "I had chemotherapy because of the size of the tumour, then surgery and then radiotherapy. I am considered to be in remission now.

"After I finished my treatment I decided to do the London one two years ago and then last year did London and Edinburgh so this year thought I'd do all three.

"Since I started I am training a minimum of two eight-mile circuits at the weekends, in addition to during the week. Currently that's at least 24 miles a week and as soon as the clocks change will increase to over 30 miles a week.

"I'm trying to raise both money and awareness. I have a target of £1,500 but would like the total to be a lot higher."

A registered charity, Walk the Walk raises funds for a variety of vital breast cancer charities.

The summer after finishing her treatment, Sarah went to the Penny Brohn Cancer Care Centre which is supported by Walk the Walk, where she was given advice, support and information on a new approach to life.

She said: "I've done some fairly major changes in terms of exercise and what I eat, cutting out things such as dairy and red meat.

"The moonwalks are not gruelling if you have trained. The London one is massive, there's a huge amount of camaraderie."

Sarah is hoping to complete each walk in under six hours this year, having gradually reduced her time over the last two years.
